Automotive Blasting
Automotive blasting is something that you should only trust to someone who not only knows what they are doing, but has a genuine passion for cars. Here at extreme blasting we have both.
We believe the best process for cleaning and preparing your vehicle for restoration is by using a lightweight fine abrasive, crushed glass. Unlike other blast media, glass is very light and does not work harden your panels. Unlike garnet, a glass blasted panel can still be file finished with ease (just like a paint stripped panel but without all the mess and a LOT more thorough). |
A combination of correct media choice, operator technique, operator care and experience is the key to a great job with no distortion and ultimately a better restoration.
Unlike many blasters, Extreme blasting's technique and media choice allows us to safely blast almost all areas of your car, including roof skins, quarter panels and bonnets. Check out our photos for yourself and then compare them to others you see on the internet with roofs and quarter untouched (or paint stripped which doesn't remove rust). When you see a job done like that you know even the operator doesn't feel confident, so why would you risk your pride and joy. |
Why Crushed glass? Crushed glass has a hardness rating of 6.5 Mohs, steel is only slightly softer at 6. Garnet is at the high end of the scale around 8 (Diamond is 10). The harder the media is compared to the substrate the more it hardens the surface and the faster it removes material (good and bad). Crushed glass will easily remove all traces of rust but it will take less of the good steel compared to garnet. |
